All eyes are looking up to the Liberian Justice Ministry today. Prosecution in the Global witness corruption allegations case is expected to respond to motions by lawyers representing Senator Varney Sherman, asking the Criminal Court in Monrovia, to drop charges against the Senator.

Sherman’s lawyers filed the motion on Monday, saying the corruption allegations against their client were without merit because they lack specific facts as required by law.

The prosecution has three working days to respond. Today Thursday, marks the third day since the motion to quash the case was filed on Monday. The aggressiveness with which the defense is mounting pressure for the case to be dismissed and the slow pace at which prosecution is working is prompting fears that the government may lose.

Reports say representatives of the Special Task force set up to investigate Senator Sherman and other accused in the Global witness report which links several government officials to bribery are in London to find more evidence in the case.

The shock is the speed with which the accused were indicted, although the government appears unprepared to immediately mount a case against the accused.

With the Task Force struggling to litigate a case it was initially requested to review than to prosecute, hopes that at least someone will face justice for corruption seem to be fading fast.
